A Villanella is an italian song that really has no meaning but is created to entertain. Dean Martins 'That's Amore' from 1956 is a perfect example of a 'poem' that has no real meaning. Jamaican Poet Mutabaruka released an album of Spoken Word titled 'The Mystery Unfolds' in 1987. On the album was a piece titled 'Dis Poem' a poetic villanella of sorts. A piece that seems to pick at all the little threads of social and political ideologies of the time, without actually tugging and unravelling anything for us.
My series is a response to these ideas as visual slam poem, or old Italian song from 16th century Naples, comical and rustic with just a hint of information to formulate an interesting narrative individually and within a group.
